What are transits?

What it is

A transit is simply where a planet is now, compared with where it was when you were born.

A picture worth keeping

Think of your chart as a photograph of the sky at your first breath. Transits are the weather moving across that photograph today.

What that looks like

How Reflect uses it

In Reflect, updates use transits as gentle conversation starters. You always decide what resonates.

What it is not

People read transits as prompts for reflection — not predictions. A transit never decides your day; it offers a question worth sitting with.

Learn · sky mechanics

Nine small machines

Astrology talks about cycles, loops and angles. These nine moving plates show what the words actually mean — no account needed to watch them.

The moving sky

The sky runs on cycles you can watch. Four plates show the ones astrologers mention most.

Moon · phases

LUNATION · 29.5 DAYS

The moon turns through eight phases in 29.5 days. Watch it travel its orbit: when its sunlit side faces us fully, that's a full moon; turned away, a new moon. Your moon sign is simply the patch of sky it was crossing when you were born.

Earth · seasons

TROPIC YEAR · 365.25 DAYS

Earth circles the sun once a year while its axis keeps pointing the same way — watch the arrow, it never turns. When your half of the world leans toward the sun, days run long: summer. Solstices and equinoxes are the four checkpoints of that lean.

Sun · moon · Earth

SYZYGY · ALIGNMENT

An eclipse needs a perfect straight line: sun, Earth, moon. When the moon slips into Earth's shadow it turns rust-red — a lunar eclipse. The plate slows down at the exact moment of alignment.

Moon · crossing points

NODES · 18.6-YEAR DRIFT

The moon's orbit crosses the sun's path at two points, directly opposite each other. Eclipses only happen while the moon is near one of them — an eclipse season. The crossings drift slowly backwards, one full turn in 18.6 years.

Retrograde, explained

Planets never reverse. Three times a year Mercury only seems to — here is what you are actually watching.

Mars · apparent loop

SYNODIC · 779.9 DAYS

Earth orbits faster than Mars. As we overtake it, Mars seems to pause, double back, then resume — like a slower car seen from a faster train. The red stretch is that backward illusion, about two months long.

Mercury · apparent loop

SYNODIC · 115.9 DAYS

Mercury runs an inside track. Every 116 days it passes between Earth and sun, and for about three weeks it too seems to back up.

Venus · apparent loop

SYNODIC · 583.9 DAYS

Venus backs up for about six weeks, once every eighteen months — the rarest and longest of the personal-planet retrogrades.

Reading a chart

A chart is geometry: where things stand, and the angles between them. Two plates show the grammar.

Planets · angles

CONJUNCTION TO OPPOSITION

Planets relate by angle. 0° blends them, 60° lends ease, 90° brings friction, 120° flows, 180° pulls apart. Each time the wheel passes one of these angles, it is named.

The wheel · twelve houses

ASCENDANT · ONE FULL DAY

The wheel divides the sky above and below your horizon into twelve houses — stages of a life. The horizon line sweeps through all twelve in a single day; where it stood at your first breath sets your rising sign.
